YCN Orchard Pig: Idea generation

To start my idea generation, I created mind maps to collect ideas and themes that could be used to base my idea on. What was important to think about was touch points, the places that the audience would encounter and engage with the promotion of the cider and the cider itself.

The campaign should be humorous to match the outgoing and adventurous nature of the company, but not be too over the to as the design is to promote a cider, not a comedy festival.

These mind maps cover a wide range of possibilities for the final outcomes of this brief but what I would like to base mine on is engaging the audience through integration in the supermarket, bar and even at home through the use of a social media campaign backed up by a selection of in store promotional items.

YCN Orchard Pig: Brief

The brief is to design a campaign that drives proper engagement in orchard pig cider and promote it as the only craft cider. The campaign not only needs to be engaging it should be based on the background, history and current position of the cider. Orchard Pig’s ciders believe it is the only ‘craft Beer’ like cider in the market today which have a modern positioning and tone of voice.
The target audience is for everybody and anybody that espouses the same values as Orchard Pig – Generation Z, no demographics apply.
The company’s principles are:
• “Stay rooted” is what we say to the world
• We appreciate simplicity…and cider
• We like to poke fun at the world and ourselves…
• We are ALL about the cider…
And their values are:
BOLD, Dare to be different
CIDER, It’s all about the cider
ROOTED IN SOMERSET, Proud of where we are from
MISCHEVIOUS, A catalyst for more fun
SIMPLE, Simple brand and simple product

INCLUSIVE, For anyone and everyone

end of module evaluation

From completing this module i achieved most of the key learning outcomes the i intended to. I intended to greaten my knowledge of publication design and also greaten my understanding of UI and UX design.

When completing the design for print brief, my book design expressed a greater understanding on layout, use of type and use of colour compared with the small publication that i developed in the first year. My knowledge upon binding methods, and choice of stock as greatened as I took into consideration the uses and qualities of the stock and if it was an appropriate choice for the books intended purpose. The most influential part of  the project was the feedback that i received at regular intervals throughout the design process. I found it very useful as the feedback was from my intended target audience which was important to the design as i meant that i was giving the audience a product that they liked and that they would find useful.

When completing the design for screen brief i was apprehensive at first i had previously not completed a brief or module for screen based design, because of this i found research was a crucial part that helped me understand what was being asked of me. Although i had even completed a similar brief to this before i enjoy this a lot more then design for print book as it was different to anything i done before. The considerations that i knew i had to keep in mind if the designs were appropriate for the audience, is the navigation efficient, are the icons recognizable, is this product/design need. By keeping these in mind throughout my design process it made the designing run smoothly and allowed me to make and efficient app, what i found to be needed.

By completing this module i have found that design for screen is something that is of great interest to me, especially coding, this interest came from the brief lesson that Simon idea on the basics of coding at the beginning of the module, Because of this lesson i have purchased a book that goes though the basics of coding which i intend to go though so that i can learn more about it and hopefully continue to learn more in depth about design for design.

This clear clean and concise app promotes an efficient experience that is user friendly, is clear to navigate and successfully targets the consumer market.
To make my app look and feel like a proper application on the market i had to consider the aesthetics of the design and the feel i want it to have. My target
audience for the application is women and possibly men looking for a beauty product at the cheapest price in shops that they go to without having to visit every shop/website. With the app being used for efficiency the apps design is simple, effective, efficient, and comparative. To make the app look simple the screen contains only the necessary information and icons for easy navigation, by doing so this makes the app efficient to use.The app creates a profile of the unique users and collects data from the shops that they like to shop at and products they
usually buy, because of this it helps the app make comparisons that are useful for the user and make it as effective at its purpose as possible. With the app creating a profile of the user and being personalized to them i created it so that it had a personal feel to it without looking unprofessional. This is reflected in the choice of typeface as i used a handwriting font. I chose to use Angelina as its letter forms and nicely shaped which is good for legibility, which is important in the app as it is being used for efficiency and type needs to be legible when used quickly,  i think is is the most appropriate typeface for its intended purpose because of this and it  has personality to make it feel personal and isn’t too artist it is simple yet effective for its purpose.
The colour scheme of the application reflect its purpose,
intended audience and overall intended feel to the app, but still wanting to make the app feel personal. Looking at the research into existing apps i found that most use a white background, this works well as it is bright, clean looking, doesn’t look
overcomplicated/too distracting and keeps all the attention on the products and information, Because of this i think the use of white works well as it would draw attention to the products which is the main focus point of the application. For the type i used black/grey. Black for the more important text and grey for
subheadings and links. With the apps name being amber i thought that it would be appropriate to use a hint of amber to highlight certain part of information throughout the app and add a statement colour.
