As a study task we were asked to create a range of designs for last years secret 7 songs to show us what style of work we can create for the project and also give us a taste of what we can expect. After considering them all i decided on underworlds born slippy song. I chose this as i thought that the lyrics left a lot of room for imagination and creativity. Below are my responses to the task:
Above is a design i created by type setting the lyrics from born slippy in a creative way using underscores as spaces to make the lyrics travel across the page more. I chose to have the type in a light brown colour as this is similar to the colour of larger and was a little reference to it. I chose these lyrics as they do not include or suggest the title or the artists name. I also used capitals on the word shouting for a literal response to the word and also onomatopoeia.
Above is the same typeset image as the previous design but i decided to esqued the text so i sterling form to add depth and texture the the image as well as hit the lyrics so that it was not as literal.
Above is the design that i created based on the lyric 'You got a velvet mouth' i used an image of velvet to fill in the lip colour of the mouth that i drew. This response was literally but effective as the lyric it was from was not related to the title or the band.
When in a crit i received feedback on my designs that said that they were good literal responses and they really liked the typeset design as it was aesthetically pleasing the way it had been set, but they preferred the equed typeset design the most as it was interesting and hard to make out as type but was aesthetically pleasing just as a pattern with the colour relating to the image.
