These are images of my final resolution. I am very happy with the overall look of my book as i think it is very appropriate for the intended
audience of design students. I identified this target audience as i found that there is a gap in the market for books aimed at design students that were not text books. The use of colour was appropriate as the colours were chosen because of their links with education, similarly to the choice of typeface.
After reading a selection of books on type and printing i made an informed choice on what typeface i would use for my book. After reading the thames and hudson manual of typography i asked myself a few question which it suggested would help determine the legibility of the type. I decided that i would use a serif font for the majority of my books as it is considered the most legible type for print as well as being appropriate for educational use as the letters have uniformity and are a good reflection of education. I chose to consider 3 serif typefaces, times new roman, adobe caslon and baskerville as they were considered the most legible type faces for print.
After undergoing a test to decided which was the most legible type i found that baskerville was the as the lines were bold and that came across even without a fill. Baskervilles heavy strokes, clean, sharp lines and clear sharp serifs made this the best of the three typefaces.
When thinking about colours for my book i wanted to keep them to a minimal as i wanted the book to come alive the most the audience used to by colouring in and working through it, because of this i intended to stick to a limited pallet of colours. When considering what colours to use i thought that the use of red, yellow and blue would make a nice tie to education with them being the primary colours that you learn which very young, i also thought it would tie in with the anatomy of type as the terms they are learning in the book as what makes up a letter and these three colours and the main colours that make up every other colour, because of these links i decided that this was a very appropriate colour scheme. To contrast with the three primary colour i decided that i would contrast them with a clean with page and black text. I choose to have my text black as it will also contrast with the white page and help the information stand out.
From my binding research i decided that i was going to bind my book using signature binding method with a hard cover. I decided this because i found it was the most appropriate method for binding as it is strong, the hard cover is the most effective way of protecting the pages and also this method of binding allows the book to be laid flat which allows easy when reading.
After all the considerations and design is i would consider may book to be appropriate for its intended purpose.
