Icons

looking at icons

After looking at these icons and also comparing them to the icons that i looked at in my app research i decided that i would like my icons to be sleek, and have thin black lines so that they contrast with the apps background, and also make them look as sleek and minimalist as possible.

I decided to use the hamburger menu symbol as it is very popular in apps of today and also I think it is in keeping with my idea of keeping it minimalist. I decided that the magnifying glass for the search icon was also appropriate as it also is widely popular with apps today and I want to stick to what the consumers know so that the app stays efficient to use. For similar reasons to the other icons is choose to use the cog as the setting icon. When it came to designing the favorites icon I decided that a star would work well as it is also used a lot in applications and I thought that the shape lines would contrast nicely with the rounded shapes of the other icons. When designing the scanner icon i found it difficult as a barcode has multiple lines and does not fit in the idea of minimalism and over complicated the design, although when paired with a magnifying glass covering the bottom right corner, it made a successful icon as it was easily recognizable, which served its purpose and minimalized the amount of lines by covering them. For the notifications icon I decided that I would use exclamation mark as it will grab the users attention with its association with putting emphasis on making works louder. i think this is appropriate compared to the use of an envelope with a number in the top corner or a number in a circle as the notifications will be used as alerts to either remind the user to buy something or to tell them what is on off that they use. I decided to use a star for the favorites icon as it seemed to be popular when researching other apps, as it was popular i decided that it was appropriate as the user would recognize it and this would speed up the usability of the app.
