In todays presentation we were taught about the use of grids and typography in newspapers, magazines and publications in general. We were then asked to work in pairs to map out the grids used on a page of a newspaper.
After drawing grids over the pages I realised that the grid consisted of 5 columns and that was consistent throughout the other pages of the newspaper but they were using in a different way, with text alway in one column and images spread across 1 to 4 column's depending on the importance of the image. Think gutters between each column were used to keep the text aligned and also to create a separation between them. This task has taught me then grids are important because they create consistency between pages and gives them order, but the more complex they are the more flexible they become to use. This will be important to keep in mind when am design my own publication as part of the design principles OUGD404.
