Throughout this project I have learnt many new skills and also refined skill that I already had. I have learnt how to sufficiently use indesign to create publications and grids that I have used not only in this project but many other projects too. I have refined my skills in book binding, I found that the workshop was very useful as it gave me a refresher on the techniques and also pushed me to use it in other projects and create my own books outside of university projects.
I learnt the importance of taking goo photographs of the end product to make the end product look professional and be presented in such a way the matches the look of the book. I learnt the importance of using a grid when creating work as without a grid it is very difficult to line up things on a page and also create a constant theme throughout the pages. I also learnt the importance of research as the content of my publications replied heavenly
In this project I found learning to create a professional looking publication difficult while using minimal colour and simplistic layouts. What I enjoyed about this project was learning how to create a publication on an interest of mine that I wanted to research about and learn more on. When doing this research I also learn skills in how I could improve my productivity and keep on top of my work. If I was to do this projects again I would constantly check for type errors as this was one of my mistakes in this brief, I have now learnt that it is very important to check, re check and check again before going ahead and printing as this was my down fall on this brief.
After completing my final publication I found that I could have pushed the content and design a lot further so that the design was more intriguing and interactive as the over all look was very minimalistic and very type lead. If I was to improve the publication now I would redesign the page layout and possibly change the direction of the block
colours as although it is consistent through the design it would benefit from more of a change and I found that the introduction and contents page worked a lot better than the other page layouts. I would also research more into the use of colour as I think I may have over looked a few important references to colour. If I was to improve my leaflet design I would add more colour and integrate a more interesting layout to make the piece more engaging for the consumer, as well as host in on a website so that people could print it out and use it as a guide on creating a a one piece booklet/8 page zine fold.
After completing this brief I have learnt skills that I will be able of apply more to my work next year, as I have really enjoyed creating a physical and interactive final piece, this has made my want to create more physical work instead of creating and submitting things digitally. I would also like to use my publication skills and book binding skills to create a portfolio publication as I think that would be a good reference point for past work.
