OUGD406 Collaborative practice - studio brief 3

initial group ideas and also about how group works together

We were given a brief to create a an identity for the exhibition and also the promotional materials and way finding. We had to work as a group communicating and working together to create appropriate responses.

The venue for the exhibition is bank house.
Nick Bridgland, designation team leader for English Heritage in the north said: “Bank House is a boldly designed and executed office building by a well-respected practice. Its powerful
street-presence is offset by the use of good quality materials. This architectural finesse and historic interest mean it fully deserves listing at Grade II.”
The building is very angular and the exhibition shape is very large blank canvas that has the looks and feel of office space as the build houses bank offices. This will be influence and restrict that way in which can exhibit the work.

When talking our first meeting we mind mapped all the Themes we could think of and also any added things we think we wanted to include. We then assigned roles in which we would all research separately to collate in our next meeting. This sport research become a group thing with everyone helping out each other and developing an finical concept that we all agreed on.

(experiments)
Our concept is to create a the theme of origami and ripped pieces of money as the basis for our promotional materials.
The tone of voice we decided on was humorous to show that the exhibition was not serious as all the work presented is theoretical. After deciding on this, creating experiments/mock ups(above) and researching into it, we thought that people may be miss lead into thinking the exhibition was on origami and not bank notes, and would not be a fair representation of the work with its loose link to money.

Initial feeling surrounds the group

When first meeting with my group i felt that everyone was reluctant to discussing ideas with each other and only spoke a few words. Myself and alice seemed to take shelled at the start in trying to make the group more vocal about ideas as we didn't want to take lead and over rule everyone. Later in the group discussion conversations became a lot more fluent with everyone contributing to the discussion and ideas. There was then no one in the role as leader as the group was very equal and all contributing which made the group very productive.
