Study Task 1 Deciding on a Type

As a group we were given the task of rebranding the company Help-Link. As our starting point we decided that it was important to choose a type face first that we initially thought would reflect our company. We were given 6 fonts to choose from (Vignellis six basic typefaces)  - Garmond, Bodoni, Century Expanded, Futura, Times Roman and Helvetica. As a group we decided that a san serif font would be most appropriate as it is modern and very simplistic just like the company. so we have to choose between Futura and Helvetica.
As this was hard to make a good comparison with out putting them next to each other i went of photo shop and created this comparison sheet.
In Red we have futura and in black is helvetica. i decided to over lay the two fonts as it is that only clear way we could see the slight differences between the two. down the side i have stated a few of the main differences that are noticeable, such as the dots on i, j, ! and ? are different shapes, and one font has a tail on the upper-case G and the other doesn't.

These comparisons are also reflected in other brands that have also use thats two fonts. All these companies are well recognised from there logo, and simplistic modern fonts.

From this comparison and research we decided that helvetica was the best choice as it was modern and simplistic but still had certain elements of serif fonts that make it sophisticated.
