Brief 3 - Plant Publication - Visual Research/Analysis

Another form of research that was important to the easy stages of my magazine development was looking at plant magazines that already exist. most of the magazines I found were focusing on outdoor plants and gardening not indoor plants. The intended audience for these magazines is much older than my audience and this is showed by the style of typography, the images used, and the information on the cover as well. As I couldn’t find any relevant magazines for my audience I looked at books, as coffee table books are very popular with my intended audience, and house plants have become more popular of recent, because of this I found a large range of big thick books on plants. These book had sleek simple front covers, with styled photography of plants.

An interesting part of these books were the contents pages as it set the tone for the book as it showed clearly what was inside the book and also a glimpse of the style of the content. The sleek covers of these books were more appealing and relevant to the content and audience of which I am aiming my magazine at, and because of this I have decided that I wanted to reflect something similar in my designs as it is more popular with my audience but also would be more affordable than a large book.
